At the service of that mission, in 2021 and beyond, MoveOn will promote agile, multi-channel, impactful and movement-connected campaigns aimed at generating impact.
As director of communications, your job will be to lead MoveOn’s communications work and help guide the influential voice of our organization as millions of MoveOn members campaign and organize to advance after the election. This is a top management role in the organization. You will be responsible for the overall branding and communications strategy, managing the staff who carry out the media relations, social media, creative and cultural work of the organization, helping the organization establish clear messages for a wide variety of endeavors and settings, and helping to map out a broader political and organizational strategy.
Develop and implement the organization’s communication strategy, narrative framework, and messages to advance MoveOn’s campaigns to build political power on issues including racial justice, climate, healthcare, democratic reform, and more. Work across the organization and partner closely with senior & amp; teams to drive our communications strategy across multiple streams.
Manage, support and develop a growing team, budget, and portfolio spanning traditional communications, culture, creativity, social media, strategy and content creation, and more, to ensure that our communications across channels be effective and convey consistent messages that help win campaigns and build our brand. . Currently, the CCO leads a team of about a dozen employees plus various consultants and vendors. Direct reports include the Director of Public Affairs, the Director of the Creative Lab, the Cultural Director, the Director of Media Relations and Communications Management, and the Director of Social Media.
Manage, execute and refine the MoveOn brand strategy, ensuring that MoveOn is synonymous with democracy, people-driven policies, and a multiracial community of millions of members across the country working together to achieve progress.
Manage organizational risks in the field of communications, which include, but are not limited to, hiring communications providers in the event of a crisis, training staff on interactions with the media and expectations of social networks, the development and implementation of approval processes for any product to be released to the public and evaluation of the organization. decisions that may affect the MoveOn brand. Raise the voices of MoveOn members whenever possible to demonstrate what grassroots action looks like and showcase the collective power of our people at work.
Stay up-to-date on the status of our policy, regularly monitoring news and political developments and identifying opportunities for rapid response and other interventions that may have an impact.
Manage MoveOn’s public presence, including website, logo, conference presence, and more, in partnership with other teams.
Be available to work nights and weekends and occasional trips when the need arises.

Understand how to use an interdisciplinary set of communication tools to harness political power and tell the story of who we are, including emerging and digital platforms.
Having substantial communications experience knows how ideas flow in society, which communication channels reach which audiences, how information media and environments are structured and evolved, and how to get messages across in a meaningful way. You have practical skills and abilities in one or more of the areas of social media, media relations, creative content production, brand management, and / or cultural organization.

Skills and experience required
At least 5 years of experience in progressive political, advocacy, campaign or movement roles and have in-depth knowledge of politics and the media and can make excellent strategic political judgment.
At least 5 years of experience in communication jobs or in the fields of media relations, earned media, social media, and content development.
Experience in using multifaceted communications to drive your earned, paid, social, digital, cultural, creative / video message
Experience in the management and leadership of high performance personnel.
Have an established track record of impact Your work will already have played a significant role in affecting movement building, public discourse, winning promotion or election efforts, and / or achieving progress.
Excellent communication skills, individually and organizationally.He is a compelling writer, editor, and oral communicator in various media and formats – fast at writing talking points and press releases using crisp and concise messages, with an intuitive sense of the content that will travel and resonate.

Location The position can be based on any part of the contiguous United States. May require occasional travel.
